Bum Phillips Charities was created by Bum and Debbie Phillips in 2010 as the base for a retreat center and as a fundraising organization for the charities that have touched their hearts over their many years of charitable work. The Phillips’ have donated considerable acreage of their Goliad, Texas ranch to create the Bum Phillips Retreat.
The retreat, owned and operated by Bum Phillips Charities, hosts many activities and events year-round. Retreats offered by Bum Phillips Charities include “Under the Juniper Tree” pastoral retreats that will provide respite for those who minister to our spiritual needs and widows’ retreats which will provide fellowship, service and comfort to those who are grieving.
Events include the use of their retreat for Christian ministries. Bum Phillips Charities actively supports the prison ministry of Mike Barber Ministries and Tommy Maxwell’s Dallas-based Coaches Outreach. Every effort is made to obtain sufficient contributions to provide the services, events, and activities for free or significantly reduced rates.
Since our inception, Bum and I have endeavored to build these facilities with the help of our many loyal partners; however, with Bum's death in October 2013, much of the money coming in has slowed down.
Through 2014 we were blessed to receive nearly $300,000 toward the building of the facilities. With that money we have built infrastructure (water, electricity, and waste treatment), established building pads and roads, placed cabins, and laid the foundation for the community events pavilion.
In 2015 with the cabins in place, we hosted two retreats for Heart Sign (the ministry for the deaf and their families established by our daughter and son-in-law) and housed the members of the Mike Barber Ministry who came to minister at the Kenedy prison. We also built the structure of the pavilion.
2016 brought two retreats from Elevate Church Praise and Worship Team and their leadership. Construction has also continued on the pavilion. We have collected materials and started the interior finishing for the pavilion and is slated for completion in February 2017. This building will include restrooms, a 1,200 square foot meeting room and commercial kitchen. The structure also has a 6,000 square foot open air pavilion. We have also established the "Juniper House" which serves as a 2,400 square foot fellowship center with two groups scheduled for Christmas and year end 2016 as well as a retreat using both facilities for March 2017.
Support Christian ministries serving those who are the least of us as taught by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 25:34-40 through financial support and the use of our retreat facilities.
Bum Phillips Charities is a 501(c)3 public charity. All donations are tax deductible.
